FAQs
BWRT is a solution-focused therapy, which makes it a very efficient therapy. Many problems respond well to between one and four sessions. Some more complex issues may need more sessions. Depending on the problem, an issue can sometimes be resolved in one session. As with all therapy, the number of sessions and level of success can vary from one person to another.
Sessions are online via Google Meet video call and last one hour.
I will ask you a some questions about what has brought you to see me and will explain fully how the process works. While older styles of therapy may spend a long time analysing the causes of your problem, BWRT doesn’t have to do this. Instead it resolves the problem directly, at the point your brain first chooses a response, before it gets to the conscious mind. This saves a lot of talking and a lot of time! Read more here.
No. You only need to talk about the particular difficulty you are facing and you don’t even need to focus on that for very long. You don’t have to talk about anything you would rather keep private. With BWRT you only have to tell the practitioner how you feel and how you would like to feel instead. If an active memory needs to be accessed it only has to be held for a few seconds, unlike some other therapies which need it to be held for much longer. Read more here.
Yes. BWRT is a modern science-based therapy, originating from 2011 and based on the latest neurological research. It is used worldwide by psychologists, counsellors, therapists and psychiatrists to help resolve all kinds of psychological difficulties. BWRT has been the subject of a Ph.D. awarded from Lincoln University and is currently the subject of clinical trials at the University of Bergen, Norway (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34696777/).
Studies have found that online therapy via video call is as effective as in-person therapy, sometimes even more so. Certainly BWRT works just as well online as in person. Online appointments save you the time and expense of travelling, making it a more convenient and affordable therapy. You can access the right therapy for you, wherever you are in the UK, whether at work or in the comfort of your own home. All you need is a reliable internet connection and a place where you can speak in privacy.
Yes, I am fully neuro affirming in my therapeutic approach. BWRT resonates with neurodivergent clients as it works with each individual’s unique brain processes. It does not tell you what to think and you do not need to be able to describe in detail what you are feeling. BWRT does not try to correct “problematic” thinking patterns like CBT and does not involve lengthy re-exposure to triggering situations. Instead BWRT quickly and effectively helps you target the anxiety or other response that you want to change.
No, BWRT does not involve hypnosis or anything that might be considered mystical or unscientific. You remain completely conscious throughout the therapy session and in control of choosing how you would like to respond.
BWRT can help with all kinds of anxiety, anything from generalised anxiety disorder, to specific issues such as performance anxiety, social anxiety and panic attacks. Clients report relief from anxiety symptoms and quickly feeling calmer following therapy. You can read more here.

Straightforward issues such as phobias, fears and specific anxieties will not normally need any medical consultation before BWRT. If your presenting problem could be caused by a medical or physiological condition, please ensure you have had a medical consultation before working with BWRT.
It is important that you are ready to make changes and willing to work together. I will work to the best of my abilities and knowledge but I cannot guarantee individual results. As with any therapy there can be no guarantee that it will resolve your issues. Confidentiality is maintained as per the BWRT code of ethics.
